Background

Chitungwiza is the youngest local authority in Zimbabwe and is located 25 kilometres southeast of Harare's central business district. It was formed in 1978 by the amalgamation of three African townships to form a residential dormitory for the capital. Chitungwiza received full municipal status in 1981 and it is now the third largest and fastest growing urban centre in the country.

Chitungwiza is also home to the grave of Chaminuka a leading Prophet And spirit medium in the 19th century.He was also a leading military strategist, musician and poet.So you can visit Chaminuka Shrine which  is  stones throw away form the Chitungwiza towns industrial area.

From Humble Beginnings to Bustling Hub:

Chitungwiza's story starts in the late 19th century as a small settlement known as Seke.In the 1970s, the government embarked on an ambitious project to create a high-density township to accommodate Harare's growing population.Chitungwiza, meaning "place of iron" in the Shona language, was born.

While geographically close, Chitungwiza is a separate city within the Harare Metropolitan Province. Think of it as a dynamic neighbour, offering a unique character and lifestyle.
